I would like to change the rock pattern from a horizontal to a non-regular shape.

Your first image shows highly irregular stonework. If that is what you want, you can create an Art Brush and use that. The Art Brush will give one instance of the artwork, whereas other will give tiles that are repeated.

Each of the two pattern tiles in the post by James (JETalmage) that you replied to in the other thread shows a simple repeatable tile in a regular stonework, only made (softly) irregular by adaptation, as James showed.

You can make a more varied one with more stones, such as the courses of higher and lower stones you have (still with a bond pattern), but it must be made from a part of the stonework that will fit seemlessly if you repeat it.

I am afraid that James has been away from the forum for some time, but you can still see and use the screenshots from back then.

In any case, if you have a raster image you will have to start over.

I don't see a highly irregular pattern there. Stonework is a simple pattern most of the time and can be made into a pattern brush pretty easily. In fact you can just create a new pattern brush and then select it from the pattern popup.

In fact that 10 year old thread is perfect. It addresses several different approaches while still being short. Discussing problems with one of the approaches directly in that thread will only mess up that thread.

Monica, in the From this image I see 18 courses with a variation of course height, termed 1-2-3 as follows,

3-2-2-2-1-1-3-2-3-1-2-2-3-1-3-2-2-1

and with an irregular bond pattern, so no repetition.

Hence the Art Brush suggestion if that (kind of) irregularity is to be kept, rather than replaced by a much more regular pattern which is inevitable with repetition.

That 10 year old thread is perfect indeed. However, it would have been lost forever in the great deletion that happened in late 2019 if corief had not messed it up with the reply "This is awesome. Thank you!" on 9th January 2019.

And for all we know, without the post yesterday by elfengoura, this perfect thread would still be sinking towards the bottom (again), increasingly unlikely to be found and read at all, and maybe even lost in a possible later great deletion.

Having long forgotten all about it, at least I should never have thought of referring to it; I have only just made a belated Bookmark.
