Latest ver. of Illustrator....

Created a rectangle.

Wanted to rotate rectangle from anywhere but its center.

Supposedly click the rotate tool, then hold alt while attempting to move pivot???

I never see the pivot move or end up anywhere else but the center.

But after doing and typing in a % rotation and pressing Okay, that the rectangle rotates in WAY wider radius than I thought I had tried to moved the pivot.

Also, sometime when I repeatedly try to move the pivot, the program lags/locks to the point I've had to exit and restart Illustrator. Other than that, Illustrator has behaved as expected.

I can move pivots with ease in Photoshop.

Correct answer Ton Frederiks

I only worked within the white area only but somewhow my pivot is miles outside and my rectangle rotated miles outside.

I understood that you were trying to move (by dragging) the pivot point.

Do you use a tablet? Does it work without one?

You can Alt click with the Rotation tool to set the rotation point.
