Question

Cloud save of AIC file not opening/downloading

I have an AIC file I've been working on and saving to the cloud that now refuses to open or download. I've tried the following:

  • restarting
  • signing out and back in again
  • renaming the file
  • creating a copy of the document
  • opening the file from both the Illustrator app and the creative cloud through the browser version and in the desktop app
  • I've reset my account preferences

The app is up to date (version 28.5) and my Mac is running Sonoma 14.5. I am only utilizing a small portion of my account cloud storage.

It is only this singular file which is giving me difficulty. Any other trouble-shooting options you could recommend would be greatly appreciated! This file had many days of work go into it and I would prefer to not start from scratch!

Does the AIC file display a preview image at all in the Files section of the Creative Cloud Desktop app? From within the Creative Cloud Desktop app have you tried downloading the file to your computer's hard drive and then try opening that copy of file in Adobe Illustrator from the hard drive? If that step doesn't work the file could be corrupted.

Thanks for the response! It does load a preview in the creative cloud app and in Illustrator. I've created a copy of it as well that previews like it should load correctly, but I've not been able to successfully download it to my hard drive. It gives me the pop-up saying it's attempting to download with a progress bar, but then never finishes the download.

That's not a good sign if the AIC file won't download to local storage from the CC Desktop app. Other people in this forum have posted about similar experiences.

Sometimes I'll save copies of a project I've worked on in a cloud location. If I'm actively editing, saving and re-saving the document I'm almost always doing so to a file that is located on an internal hard drive or external hard drive. I'm not able to trust actively editing a file that is saved in a cloud location. I worry that if the Internet connection falters at all while the cloud-based document is in the process of saving the file could get corrupted. Some art files can get pretty big in file size and take awhile to save/upload. The more time that is needed to save/upload a changed file leaves more chances for a flaky Internet connection to mess with it. I'd rather do all the editing on a locally stored file and then upload it to the cloud later if I want to do so.
