Color discrepancy problem between two CMYK documents.

Hello Everybody,

I'm having a peculiar problem with Illustrator and I'd appreciate it greatly if anyone can provide help.

I use CMYK color mode templates to show clients previews of how their printed material will look like so that they may approve, and recently a client provided me with a CMYK color mode logo file to use but when I copy the file to my template, the colors values change altogether. I have attached two images to show how I mean, the first is the client's original file:

Is there a way to avoid this from happening and have the image copy with the right colors in my templates?

Thank you very much!

Correct answer Theresa J

The color space used to create the template file is different than the color space you are using to create the art. Most likely you have all of your warnings turned off, so you aren’t getting a warning when you copy and paste from one document to the next. Go to Edit>Color Settings and turn on the warnings.

When you move from one color space to another you have an option to convert to the new color space by changing the values of the colors, to match the colors as close as possible.

Theresa, you're a star!

Yes, you are correct and by turning those settings on, we are able to match the color management settings from the warning messages we are getting!

Thank you very much friends for helping with this problem, I am sincerely grateful!

What happens when you do the "paste" in reverse?  Set the logo artwork to the size of your template and copy-and-paste the template to the logo file?

In that case it works perfectly! Quite odd, now if I can make it work the other way round :-)

Hi!

I’ve got it set at:

Color Handling: Let Illustrator determine colors

Printer Profile: sRGB IEC61966-2.1

Rendering Intent: Relative Colorimetric

I hope this information is helpful?

Thanks!

Color management settings are in Edit > Color management. Please tell us these.
