Color Selection Question

Hi everyone!

I have a pretty basic but essential question about color selection in Illustrator.

1. I need to follow a specific style guide and was having no issues in InDesign with typing in CMYK values and and saving those colors.

2. In Illustrator, I have a CMYK mode doc and I opened the color panel and tried typing in these values that I need for a warm brown:

C13, M56, Y100 K1

3. However, instead of giving me the warm brown I need, it gives me a yellow ochre color that I don't want. It's like it overrides when I click ok. The only way I was able to get around this seemed to be to bring in a vector asset from the style gudie and eye-dropper it (very dumb process I know).

4. I did try hex code and it was the same issue.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting I am on that I should click off?

Thank you for your help!

What are your Color Settings? Edit menu > Color Settings...

Are the the same in all your Adobe apps?

What is the Color profile of your Illustrator document?

Hi Tom,

The document is CMYK. I think I may have figured out part of the issue, I have been selecting color from the panel on the left (see screenshot), rather than going through the Color panel and Adding a swatch. When I go through these proper channels, I am able to type in the values and get what I need.

I see also that you have the Web colors option checked, this limits the colors and does not make sense nowadays, especially not in a CMYK document.
