Colors in Illustrator and Photoshop different after new OS

Hello. I recently updated my PC and redownloaded Illustrator and Photoshop to the newest versions, both now are different versions than what I used in the past. After opening every Illustrator file, it makes everything much more bright than how it should look. When importing, the PNG file looks exactly how it should though. The screenshot is directly from Illustrator. I've tried going into file - document color mode - RGB since it always stars in CMYK now but it doesn't change anything. I feel like there's a setting somewhere that I'm completely missing but I've tried so many options from many different posts but none of them worked.

It's not my color settings. If I change those, the PNG changes to how it shouldn't look. My guess is that Illustrator and Photoshop are reading my Ai file different than they used to. I'm thinking it's because I used an older version of Illustrator before.

You are throwing a lot of stuff into this post.

Can you please describe step by step what you are doing and what exactly you are opening where? And also how you are doing that?

Are your files in RGB or CMYK color mode?

And what about that soft proof? You are viewing a CMYK file with an RGB setting in the soft proof?

My files are in RGB. I've tried to change my color settings from edit - color settings but those also change the PNG completely so I don't believe it's an issue with that. For some reason, whenever I open a file, I have to change it from CMYK to RBG in file - document color mode. I had someone from Adobe remote into my computer which, in RGB, they made basic shapes, saved the image, then reopened without any problems with the colors. They also transferred the files to their computer and had the same issue with the ai files, even when exporting. They couldn't resolve this issue so they said they would email me if they could solve it. I've tried view- proof setup but, just like with color settings, it changes my PNG to not looking how it should.

Did you set up the color settings identically?

When exporting PNG, mind two things: PNG is always in RGB color mode, it will convert your CMYK colors. And it doesn't get a color profile embedded.

I used Bridge to set up all of my color setting as the same. Every time I open Illustrator it changes to CMYK and i have to change it to RGB even though it doesn't change the look of the image. When I export a PNG it looks exactly the same as the bright image and not the way I want it to look. The second image was from an older export thats in my current Illustrator file.

You have to use a document preset that is not Print. And then you get an RGB document.
