Question

Combine triangels for Polyhedron cut template

Hi,

I'm new to Illustrator and want to create Polyhedron patterns.

I try to connect triangel shapes for that purpose but I don't get them combined/connected perfectly. The edges on the left and right must be melted to the shape in some way.

I found no tutorial on Youtube for that, but it will be an easy answer for a pro.

I hope the screenshots help to explain the problem.

Thanks,

Michael

The jutting points are the stroke of each triangle. If you want to elimnate these, but keep each triangle as a separate shape, change your corner shape to rounded. It's not prefect, but at least it won't jut out.

Hey,

thanks for your help. Change corner shape to rounded works. In the meantime I had a slighty better result with the effect "round edges". But your solution is very easy to use, so maybe I prefer that as long as my cutting machine like it too 😉

Now I will test Ton's tip...

My guess is your cutting machine won't care. It's not interested in the stroke, just the drawn path.

I would create a grid of triangles.

Use the Shapebuilder tool (Shift+M) and drag over the triangles you want to combine.

Stroke the outline of the combined shape and create the lines inside the shape.
