Compatibility with Yosemite — Illustrator CS5

Are there any known issues with upgrading to Yosemite if you are using the CS5 suite. I currently run Mavericks and Illustrator CS5 and I'm nervous that if I upgrade to Yosemite my CS5 suite will not work. Has anyone upgraded to Yosemite that is still using CS5 as well? Any input would be appreciated I am going to hold off on upgrading for now.

All the best,

Ryan

This has bugged me immensely as well, not seeing the font preview. BUT I FOUND A FIX! I'm so happy..

Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled “Reduce transparency.”

This will fix the issue with font preview not being visible in Illustrator CS5

I have had so many problems with my Mid 2014 Retina MBP (Yosemite) and CS5.

    - When saving files, I have to save them to the same folder as the last job I worked on, or it will crash and I lose my work.

    - Scrolling through fonts using the pulldown menus will crash Illustrator

    - after an hour or so of working, I lose the key commands, especially the shift/option to duplicate and drag in a line, or to hold the shift to resize a box in proportion

On a general note with Yosemite, I can't drag and drop files using the desktop menus, it crashes the finder!

So how did you end up fixing it?

Did you talk to Adobe about it?

I just bought a new Retina iMac and tried Illustrator CS5. It will open but crashes often. I would say it's not stable with Yosemite.

    Hi All,

I know I'm in the dark ages, but I am still running CS3 and I am having such problems with Illustrator once upgraded to Yosemite, I have downloaded all the Java scripts, did the System Prefs thing re transparency, however the problem I'm having is that Illustrator opens if I double click on the document from my folder, but I cannot get anything to work, there are no tool bars, top bar, I can't even click on the page to select anything and if I want to close the application, I have to go tho the icon in my roll away menu and select "quit"...Is there anything I can do to fix my problem, without purchasing a new CS.

P.S, I don't have any of my disc to reinstall

    TIA

    Downgrade the system.

You are a saint... I do apparel design, like spirit shirts for schools or events, So I have 100+ fonts and not being able to see them has made the past week dreadful... thank you so much.

I thought I was fine, I mostly work in CS5 AI and I just had to fix the JAVA thing but today making PDFs in Photoshop there are BIG problems. I cannot save a PS pdf high res anymore, they only come out as 500k ish files.  I reinstalled PS, seemed to work that it started happening again. UGH.

Does anyone know if you have to re-install adobe CS5 when you update to Yosemite? I'm looking to update, but don't have my Adobe discs with me, so would be in a sticky situation if that were to happen!

Usually you have to uninstall, use the Cleaner Tool and reinstall Adobe software when upgrading Mac OS.

I agree. This is the same solution I used.

However, one thing to add to this - I did not have any problems until I switched to an older Apple Cinema HD display. My newer 27" Apple LED Cinema Display had no issues with Yosemite and Illustrator.

    So, the display matters, too.

Upgrading to Yosemite caused a flickering cursor issue in Adobe Illustrator CS5! It's very difficult to use the pen tool or anything requirnig precision. Basically anytime I stop moving my mouse the cursor shows the black arrow instead of whatever tool I'm using. Extremely annoying and inhibiting. Any advice would be amazing!

Whaleskin, I had an issue in AI 5.5 with not being able to see my font list from the dropdown. Someone suggested that I go to my System Prefs/Accessibility/Display and check 'Reduce Transparency'. This fixed my problem, perhaps it will alleviate yours.
