Conflicting spot color information on Illustrator

Question

A file is refusing to open and is giving me a message that reads: "The file contains conflicting spot color information. Spot and process colors cannot share the same name. Please resolve the sport color conflict and try reopening theis file." It is kind of hard to resolve since I cannot open the file to begin with. Got any idea how to solve this? Thanks in advance!

Does the file has any linked file? if so open that file in photoshop, probably it has a Spot Aditional channel with a Pantone color which has the same name as it exists in the illustrator file but with different Pantone color book or something like that, so change the Pantone color with other similar in the spot color channel in photoshop and save the file, now open your .ai file.

It must be open fine now. The old spot color in illustrator must now be replaced for the new one created in photoshop via Swatches - Merge swatches
