Connect a straight line tangent to two arbitrary curves

This is extremely easy to do with a straight edge in the physical world but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this in Illustrator. 

If anyone has a solution to this that is not a plugin that I have to pay for (because this is a hobby and I am already spending more than my budget likes just for Illustrator) I would love to hear it!
