Convert 3D AutoCAD view to .eps or other vector format

I would like to convert a 3D AutoCAD view into a vector graphic. I have tried exporting to .eps and .dxf, but neither of these formats produces a result that is visually similar to the CAD image (below) when opened in Illustrator. Is it possible to translate the solid/hatched areas into a vector format? The gradients which make the graphic appear 3D are what we are after.

I don't think 3D views of a vector original exist in vector form. 3D rendering turns the 3D description into a raster representation from a particular view, so no vector is ever made or seen.
