Convert the point to smooth using (B)
And get the fabulus result (C).

In my view this is a bug. At least a surprising behaviour.

Try with the Direct Selection Tool.

But it will be an eyeball routine. Please check the following video Align Handles

That means we need to inducidually corrent the endpoint of each line. Seems rather silly no?
