Converting CMYK solids to Pantone in Illustrator

Hi,

Theresa Jackson hosted a wonderful presentation for Adobe of Recolor in Illustrator this week.

Here's a link to part of it:

Convert to Pantone with Illustrator Recolor Artwork ft. Theresa Jackson // CreativePro Tutorial

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYHGdB8nB-M

That really is great tip and would save A TON of time, some clever helpful programming right there - but I have a question   - when would one want to do that?  When it comes to printing that art it's plainly impossible to put that many special colours on a press?   (this a printable document, right, because Pantones are about print?)

am I misunderstanding?

thanks

I found a use!
Use it as a cipher!
Look at the image below!

Do you understand?

However, if the color profile is different, might it not work?

"when would one want to do that?"

Never, unless you have lots of money to print with 156 Pantone colors.
