Copy & Paste not retaining styles in Illustrator and InDesign

Hi there,

Just started experiencing this in Catalina so I updated to Ventura 13.1 but it didn't change anything. I am using a 27-inch 2020 iMac and the latest Illustrator version but stress it was happening on the prior version. Also, the paste in place does not work anymore. Any help would be appreciated as this is slowing production times.

Also, would you mind confirming the exact version of Illustrator & InDesign?

Hi @Anshul_Saini,

I started in Safe Mode on my 2020 iMac and the same behavior did not happen. My Illustrator is the latest version 27.1.1 and My InDesign is 18.1. Thank you for your help.

Also, it is only happening in Illustrator now.

Have you tried to reinstall illustrator? After reinstalling most of the probelms are solved, already don this job then you must have to reset your prefrences. 

Just Focus on single task.

Still having the issues with copying text and losing the formatting. I will try what you are suggesting.

So I uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator to 2023 and it still loses the formatting when copy and pasting.

To be clearer, my main concern is in Illustrator and InDesign independently, not copying from one to another. Basically in Illustrator, the styles are lost whenever you copy and paste something. I attached a sample of paste in place.

I have a MacBook Pro 2021 running Ventura 13.1, running Illustrator 27.0.1.

 

I do not have that problem. I'd suggest trying to restore your Illustrator preferences. At the bottom of the Preferences > General dialog box, there is a Restore Preferences button. After pressing the button and reboot, you'll have your preferences restored.

Not sure what having a different Mac would have to this, but ok.

  • All latest software and operating systems
  • Updated Preferences multiple times
  • iMac 27" (see attached)
  • No weird software installed, just Adobe Suite
  •

In addition to what Monika asked, please tell us was InDesign version you are using. The latest InDesign version (18.0) has better support if you're copying from Illustrator to InDesign.
