Question

Copy/Paste only works sometimes in windows 10 Illustrator CC

Hello,

I am experiencing some issues with the copy/past command in Illustrator CC. Sometimes it works perfectly. However, about 50% of the time, when I hit the copy command, it does not work and I am not able to hit the paste command (it is grayed out).

I also experience this issue when I am using copy/paste from Illustrator into After effects.

Any suggestions?

Chris

Unfortunately I still have not solved this issue...

I also recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series Laptop and I am still experiencing the same issue with the Copy/Paste.

I have noticed that it is only the Copy that is having issues. Once the Copy registers, I have no issue Pasting the data.

I thought it could be a RAM issue (Have 16GB on both my machines so very unlikely that this is the cause). I tested this theory by running Task Manager while I was working and it is not getting close to maxing out the RAM.

Hopefully I can come to solution. It is very annoying!

Do you run any clipboard extensions in your system?

Try Preferences > File handling and clipboard: turn OFF SVG option

I don't have any clipboard extensions to my knowledge. Would I have to knowingly download and install these? If that is the case then, no

I tried: Preferences > File handling and clipboard: Turn OFF SVG option.

I am still seeing the issue after doing this.

Are there any other settings that may cause this issue?

I've had this problem too ever since I've had Windows 10, with Illustrator CS5

Did you ever solve it on your PC?

If it helps anyone, I run a multi-level clipboard utility (called Ditto) on my system and I can see that the illustrator problem is in the cut/copy phase: nothing is going on to the clipboard - even though if I'm "cutting" shapes to the clipboard they are removed from the drawing.

Naturally I've disabled Ditto to make sure it wasn't causing the problem with Illustrator, and I still have the same intermittent problems without it running.

What exactly are you trying to copy/paste how exactly from where to where?

Please provide the exact steps with the exact tools and the exact objects, so one can try and reproduce the issue.

I see this issue in the following circumstances:

    1) When I am trying to copy anything from a simple shape object, text, to multiple objects together with gradients and other shading.

         A) both within the same file and when copying from one illustrator file to another illustrator file.

    2) When I am copying simple objects from illustrator into after effects to create a mask on an after effects layer.

In terms of tools I am simply using the selection tool to select what I am trying to copy and either using the short cut keys (Ctrl+C/ Ctrl+V) or the edit>copy/edit>paste commands. It doesn't really matter what method I use to copy/paste, I see the same issues with both.
