Copying and Pasting Shapes Turns Into SVG Code

Whenever I copy and paste a shape (CTRL-C-V), the result is a bunch of SVG code. All I'm trying to do is duplicate the shape. Please help.

Have you tried Option+Dragging the shape to duplicate it?

    Yeah, it just started doing this, I have no idea why.
    Thanks, the clipboard preferences helped, and so did alt-dragging.
