Crash while working - Illustrator 29.8.1 on Windows 11
Hello,
We are currently experiencing a recurring issue with Adobe Illustrator 29.8.1 on Windows 11.
Illustrator crashes randomly during an active production workflow. The issue is difficult to isolate because it does not happen on one exact step every time. Based on user observation, it may happen while recreating artwork or while moving to the back side of the job.
What makes this difficult is that the issue is inconsistent. Sometimes Illustrator crashes unexpectedly, and other times it becomes unstable, does not reopen properly, or stops reloading the current work correctly. In some cases, the user has to reopen Illustrator manually, and there are also times when the user needs to log off or restart the PC before the workflow becomes usable again.
We already did extensive troubleshooting, including:
-
reset Illustrator preferences
-
reset/checked plug-ins
-
reviewed crash reports and logs
-
created a new user profile
-
performed a fresh install
-
replaced the original PC with a new unit
-
reinstalled the required applications on the replacement PC
Despite all of these steps, the issue still recurs.
From the crash report, the application is reporting:
-
Crash type: SIGABRT
-
Exception code: 0xc0000409
The stack also shows:
-
purecall -
repeated
PluginMain -
VarBstrCat -
NdrStubCall2 -
CStdStubBuffer_Invoke
The loaded modules in the report also include:
-
ScriptingSupport.aip -
ScCore.dll -
ExtendScript.dll
Because of this, the crash appears to be happening in the plug-in or scripting path rather than from a normal application close, but we have not yet confirmed the exact root cause.
Has anyone encountered something similar in Illustrator 29.8.1, especially random crashes that are difficult to reproduce consistently even after resetting preferences, checking plug-ins, reinstalling, and replacing the PC?
Any suggestions on additional Illustrator diagnostics, known issues, or recommended troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
