Creating a form using tangents

Hello,

Is there a way of creating a form constructed only from tangents (as shown in the added hand drawing)?

 I can kind of imagine a script that divides a path into x anchor points, then draws a tangent of x distance from each point. But I don't think such a thing exists. It may be simple for a scripter to adapt, I don't know.

Any ideas?
