Creating a specific gear as a beginner

Hello all! I'm fairly new to Illustrator and while I can understand things pretty well in Photoshop and Premier, Illustrator throws me for a loop.

I'm looking to design a logo for a transmission company, there is no deadline on this and it's a friend of a friends so there no real pressure.

I have been asked to do a design that contains a Dog Box Gear. I was sent this by my friend and while I can replicate about 80% of it, the inside of the gear where it looks like 1 large triangle and 1 small triangle merge... it's really got me stuck. I will include a picture so that you can see what I am talking about.

If anyone can give me any pointers I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not great with making custom shapes just yet 😕😕
