Creating an action problems in illustrator 2025

Hi everyone. I have a lot of ai files that I am trying to convert to pdf and eps files by creating some actions and batch processing them. When I record the actions and play it back, the only thing that is happening is the file is being opened and then saved as the same ai file. A separate pdf or eps file is not created. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

Here is what I am recording:

1. open ai file

2. save as name.pdf

3. close

I thought it couldn't get any simpler than that.

@t25685086pwv9 I haven't created an action for Adobe Illustrator for awhile, but do with Photoshop with my students. It's very similar while Illustrator doesn't have a direct "File > Automate > Batch" command like Photoshop, you achieve the same result using the Actions panel menu: Batch

Thank you for your response. I watched the video and other youtube videos and can't figure out what is going wrong. I am following the steps and the batch action doesn't give me the results I need. I am still getting a copy of the ai file in another folder, it is not outputting a pdf. Don't know if it's a glitch, a settings problem or something else. 😞I've got over 100 files to do so am desperate to figure it out.
