Creating new objects with the same style as selected object

I know I've been able to do this before with past versions, and it's simply the case of not knowing where to activate it.

I simply want to be able to create new objects that retain the same fill/stroke/transparency/(etc.) of the object currently selected.

I have additionally created a style and selected it in advance of creating the object, but it switches back to default styling upon click.

Many thanks! I look forward to your advice!

Correct answer Larry G. Schneider

In the Appearance panel flyout check if New Art Has Basic Appearance is checked. If it is, uncheck it.

You can target a layer with a graphic style so that any thing that you draw on that layer will have the desired style applied to it.

First click on the round circle in the layers panel highlighted in red above. Then click on the desired graphic style. Then any object you draw on that layer will automatically have that style applied.
