Creative Cloud Apps Keep Updating Despite Auto-Update Being Disabled (macOS)

Hello.

I have been having a problem with CC since December 2025, and I was hoping someone could help. Basically all of my CC applications – AI, ID, PS and LRC – have been updating without my consent.

For context, I am running a Mac with the latest OS (as of January 2026), and:

— I have disabled Auto Update in the CC app itself

— I have turned off all Login Items and Extensions in System Preferences

— I have removed the Launch Agents and Launch Daemons from the Library

Despite having done all this, every week or two I will look in the Applications folder and find that Adobe has installed updates – and sometimes even completely new versions – of some programme without my knowledge or consent.

This is not merely an inconvenience, it is a disaster. I am a book designer who often works on projects that span several months, and I need to make sure I am working on a stable system. Given how bad the last several years worth of CC updates have been, and given that Adobe seems not to care about traditional book design – for example, the last ID update turned off all Typographers Quotes on all documents in a large book I was working on – it is important to maintain control over one's workflow and workspace. At the moment I am reverting to older versions from a backup HD, but this is not a sustainable practice in the longer term.

If anyone can tell me why Adobe products are updating in the background – and more importantly, how to stop it – I would be immensely grateful.

Many thanks in advance,

J. Simon

Just to confirm, did you turn off the auto-updates here:

Or here (this being the correct one):

You can do individual programs too.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I have turned off both…

Are the apps just updating within the same version--for example, version 30.0 to 30.1--or updating from last year's version (v29.x) to this year's (30.x)?

Hi Doctor JS,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble. We understand how frustrating it could be. Would you mind trying the following steps and checking if it helps:

  • Close all Adobe applications
  • Remove the Creative Cloud Desktop application, CCLibrary, and CoreSync using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool (https://adobe.ly/45uw7Q0)
  • Reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application (https://adobe.ly/3NHh3II)

We will try our best to help.

Thanks,

Harshika
