Crop out a circle for a transparent background

Hi,

I have an issue. I am trying to make the big, white circle transparent and keep the small one as it is (the white one is below the blue one). When I export the image and save it as a PNG, the background becomes transparent but the circle is still there. Obviously, I need to crop it or something, but don't know how. Anyone that can help me with this? Maybe explain how I can do it with any geometry, because I will need it.

Here we have the circle

And when I save it I get the following

Thanks!

Coose View > Show Transparancy Grid to see what's transparent.

Select all and use the Shape Builder (Shift M) to edit the objects.

Hold down the Alt key to subtract.

Forgot to tell that I want to remove (i.e. make it transparent) big parts of the circle but keep a "half circle" white, so that the blue dot can have a background.I want it to look like this, the grey being the transparent background.
