We have Mac and PC users that need to work on an AI file that is referencing images. We cannot use exact folder paths for the images, I need to figure out how to do this with relative file paths.

Hello,
When working with Illustrator files that reference images, using relative file paths can be quite helpful. Here are some steps you can follow:

Organize Your Project Folder:
First, create a well-structured project folder that contains your Illustrator file (.ai) and a subfolder for your images. Place all the image files you want to reference inside this subfolder.
Use Relative Paths in Illustrator:
In Illustrator, when you link an image, choose the “Link” option instead of embedding it.
When selecting the image, navigate to the subfolder where your images are stored. Illustrator will create a relative path to that image from the location of your .ai file.
Test the Relative Paths:
To verify that the relative paths are working correctly, move your entire project folder (including the .ai file and the image subfolder) to a different location on your computer.
Open the Illustrator file and check if the linked images are still correctly referenced. If they are, you’ve successfully set up relative paths!
Remember that relative paths are based on the location of the Illustrator file, so as long as you keep your project folder structure consistent, your images should remain linked even when you move the project to different computers or locations

Hope this work for you.
Best regards,
