Cut out around text

I'm trying to cut out the pumpking around the text...when the white is.  I know the text won't show up on the pumpkin....I'm fairly new and stumbling around lol.  Anyone have any pointers.  I know it's simple because I have done it before but clearly I'm not searching the correct terms because I can't find direction on doing it.  Thanks in advance for the help!
