decreasing line stroke causes varying line weight

Question

I have found that when I decrease the stroke of a line (made by the paintbrush tool if that matters), what was originally a basic, one width line changes to have varying line weights. Like in the picture below, if you look closely the lines don't keep the same width after I converted the stroke to 0.25. When it was at 1 pt the line weight didn't fluctuate. Also, sharp corners and small curves bleed together. Why does this keep happening and is there any way to fix it?

Amy,If nothing else helps, the fountain pen like corners may be caused by the Blob issue solved by Kurt with the Effect>Distort & Transform>Zig Zag (setting the Size to 0 and Ridges per Segment to a sufficiently number (up to 100, you may get away with fewer)).In your version, it has probably been been moved to the Appearance palette (click the Stroke listing).See post #4 by Kurt in this rather old thread with a link:http://forums.adobe.com/message/2619296#2619296

If you want a stroke with even width, then open the brushes panel and set to Basic. This takes away the calligraphy brush.
