Default menu command for locking selection not working

Hello...my menu command for the lock selection suddenly stopped working midstream while working on a file. I have reset the preferences to default / copied my preferences folder / reinstalled the folder / restarted numerous times to no avail. After the reset I was able to rename some of my menu and tool preferences and save as a new folder...HOWEVER the lock selection tool (which has always been a default of Ctl + 2) is still not working. Illustrator will not let me change it to another shortcut, in fact I cannot change it in any way.

 

I have no new updates either. I have done everything suggested online. I can make lock selection an action, but it is slowing down my workflow. Any other suggestions other than trying to reinstall Illustrator?

This is not working for me wither and none of the fixes below fix it.

Hi Ques1,

 

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble using the menu command. Would you mind telling us the details of your operating system and the version of Illustrator installed? Since when have you been experiencing this issue? Have you recently installed any plugins that might be conflicting with the workflow?

Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and share your observation.

Could you try running Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and check if it helps?

I did the following actions regarding my preferences not working properly:

1.
Ran a virus and malware program...nothing indicated.
2.
Started Illustrator in Safe Mode...nothing indicated.
3.
Updated my preferences / settings...now Illustrator has been working properly for the last 2 days.

Overall, I have no idea what caused the issue, as I am vigilant about updates. Nonetheless I am happy to be able to work again without the glitches.

What do you see if you click on the little arrowhead left to the "Lock" item in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog?
