Delete unused artboard presets from "new file" screen in Illustrator

How can I delete unused artboard presets from "new file" screen in Illustrator?

I tried setting the number to keep in Preferencessaved, and restarted, but nothing changed.

You may quit Illustrator and open the Adobe Illustrator Prefs file in a plain text editor.

Then find

/numRecentPresets 20

and change it for example to

/numRecentPresets 3

Save the Prefs file. Then restart Illustrator.

Note: You may have to repeat that from time to time.
