desperate for answers. since new SSD installed (professionally), my tools won't work in illustrator

need to use illustrator CC 2014 due to some hardware that won't upgrade. but since new SSD installed, along with mojave 10.14.6, my tools in illustrator are totally wonky. grab and won't release. the hand moves everything and won't release. the selection tool gathers more and won't release then makes more "boxes".

is this a software issue? or is there a setting in preferences that got skewed? or is there a keyboard shortcut that i used without knowing?

i am SOOOOOOOO frustrated!! don't know WHAT to do and work is backing up badly.

How did you get your applications over to the new hardware?

Have they been installed or just moved there from the old disk?

Re-install might be necessary. The hard part will be to get the installer.

You can try and reset the preferences first. This will erase all your settings. Rename the Preferences folder so that you can undo.

i had a qualified mac "mechanic" do all the work. i BELIEVE they were "offloaded" then reinstalled from that back up. SO, my hubby bought me another imac (new to me) and i used the time machine to install onto it and now THAT one is presenting with the SAME issues!!

can you walk me thru the reset preferences? i know how to WORK the computer (desktop publisher for 30+ years) but at a loss when it comes to HOW it works.
