Detecting and deleting duplicated shapes?

I occasionally get a few duplicate shapes on top of each other. The Shape Builder seems to be the cuptrit. Is there a utility that finds these duplicated shapes and can remove them?

The only way I have found to do this manually is to release all compound shapes and ungroup everything, then select one of each shape, cut all of those to the clipboard, delete the duplicates, and finally paste in front. At that point, I still have to use the make compound command or use the shape builder to open the interior shapes.

I have Astute Graphics if you know of the feature there.

Looking for a better way.

MJ

I sent off a note to Astute Graphics asking this question.

A tech support person sent back a personalized video answering my questions. The Astute Graphics feature is called Vector First Aid. For my purposes, it can detect duplicate stacked shapes and stacked points, unnecessary and stray points, and unfilled text strings. Actually, it has a lot more options.

I tested it on some pages with complex shapes and it found a lot of issues on each page.

Thanks for the comments, MJ
