what would be the best way for me to create this charcter looking differently in illustrator?

I'm thinking of the puppet warp tool...

The right/relevant tool(s) will depend on the actual character and the desired change, both of which we should be thrilled to see.

The tools and ways really depend on the desired kind(s) of changes. Puppet warp can be relevant in connexion with some simple changes in posture and positions of extremities without changes like turning of body (parts) which make everything much more complex, and unrelated changes such as different expressions and different colouring of skin/clothes present differnt requirements.

 

In many cases a (partial) redrawing is called for.

 

A description of the desired changes would be helpful.
