Dimension tool keeps decoupling measurements from shapes

Question

Hi there, I've been using the dimension tool to do some interior design mockups. So far it's pretty nice except that about 30% of the time the measurement lines will disconnect themselves from the shape with no rhyme or reason. I understand that measurements will disconnect when you add rounded corners (although it really should just fix itself to the nearest anchor point but whatever).

My main way of getting the measurements attached to a shape is to click and drag from the shape line itself (not messing around with clicking on individual anchor points).

I feel like I'm missing something here that is super obvious. Some shapes have no trouble keeping their measurements, and others just shed them repeatedly.

I just updated to latest Illustrator 29.2.1 today.

Any help is appreciated.

From your description, it sounds like the issue could be related to specific shape properties or tool behavior. However, without seeing the entire process, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause.

• Could you please share a screen recording of the issue from scratch demonstrating the issue?

• Ensure that the entire workflow is visible, including how the measurements are applied and when they detach.

• If possible, avoid using a GIF format, as it may not show sufficient detail. A video or higher-quality recording would help.

•Share a sample file where the issue occurs. This will help us test it directly.

Once we have this information, I’ll check with the product team for any workaround solutions or suggestions to address the behavior.
