Direct selection tool does not highlight the path and corner widgets

Hi all,

as i worked in Illustrator today, all of a sudden my direct selection tool started to behave differently. Does not highlight the path when i click on object and the corner widgets disappeared completely. I tried to change the prefences as recommended by users, my show corner widgets is on, i reseted all my preferences and it still does not work. Any ideas how to fix this? It literally happend during working from one second to another...
