Document Raster Effect Problem

I'm trying to follow a video on how to work with shadows and in the video they change the resolution of the sahdow through the document raster effect settings. I followed exactly how it said to and I changed the setiing and the setting says it's changed when I go back to try and change it again but it's still not increasing the resolution. I'm unsure of what to do at this point.
