Does the spell checker work on bilingual systems?

The subject of spell-checking has come up in our forum.
On the whole, it doesn't work for most people.
For proofreading myself I export a txt....

I have an osx system where the typing language is Polish and the display language is English. Trying the text checker never wanted to work for me. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Despite setting it to Polish, it still only checks English.

This is how it looks in a German Illustrator version (28.6). The language is set to Polish.

Spell checking seems to work well, doesn't it?

yep.

Clearly it's not working for me....
But I bet it's due to using two languages on the system.

Are you using one on the system or two?

Two. German and English (US).

There is nothing in this article about the spell check not working.
Besides, you can see from the screenshot that everything is set up as it should be.
