Question

Draw straight lines in Illustrator that isn't locked to horizontal/verticle/45 degree angles?

Hi all, I'm looking for a sollution.

I'm using the blob brush tool for line work and I've come across an issue. It doesn't seem to be possible to shift-draw lines that aren't constrained to the horizontal/verticle/45 degree angle.

Am I missing something? Seems to be a obvious feature that I can't find.

sorry... I just can suggest to make a feature request https://illustrator.uservoice.com/

Adobe team works with this forum and often adds the requested features to the updates.

well... what about basic line with the needed width and rounded caps?

Sure the basic line can work, but then I'm having to -

Change tool, make sure the settings look similar to what is set up in the blob brush, then I have outline the lines for colouring too.

I'm just looking for a strict blob brush workflow that allows me to draw straight lines in any direction. You can't even do it with the normal brush. Crazy.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Is there a reason why you use the blob brush for line work? And not the pen tool or line segment tool?

Blob Brush tool is perfect for doing lots of consistent work over multiple computers as it doesn't use a predetermined brush. Just set the same parameters and you're good to go. Also it isn't as heavy on the RAM compared to using the line brush.

See preferences \ General \ Constrain angle, by default must be in 0 degrees

Hi Mario, that makes no difference, thanks.

yes, with Shift you can draw just horizontal/vertical/45° lines. Other directions are not supported. You can try to set fidelity as Smooth and draw keeping the direction as accurately as possible. Then tool will correct your path to straight line.

That's a shame as I don't want to work with a 100% smooth brush. Hopefully there's a plugin about.
