Dull colours in PNGs and PDFs in Illustrator 2022

Hi community,

I am in need of your help!

When I import a screenshot .png into Illustrator 26.1 the colours appear dull almost as CMYK. My colour settings have been aligned to General Purpose 3 via Adobe Bridge, and I have triple checked the RGB workspace and my colour settings. I am running the same setting in Photoshop where the colours are correct and export true to the original screenshot.

The only work around the seems to be if I proof colours in RGB via 'View'>'Proof Setup'>'Monitor RGB'. Even then when I export the file as a .png the colours stil look dull.

I have tried disabling the GPU/ CPU but neither make any difference.

I tried an old Macbook pro running Ai. 25.3 with exactly the same colour settings and there was no change in colour- therefore I tried running this verison on my current machine but still dulling colours? I have no idea what's up, Please help!

Running Ai. 26.1

Operating system: Macbook Pro M1, Os Monteray

Thank you,

L

I guess it is Illustrators problem of ignoring profiles in PNG files.

It does not embed the profile while exporting and does not read the profile when placing.

Try if saving your PNG screenshot as psd or jpeg from Photoshop gives the correct colors in Illustrator.
