Editing Shadows on Shapes

Hi, Illustrious Illustrator Experts, Newbie question that you may be able to help with.

I have a shape with a cast shadow effect, which I can't remember how I even created it. That aside, I now want to adjust the shadow so it only falls across a defined area, and also have no idea how to mask/cut/edit. Please see the attached screengrab for a visual explanation.

There are several ways to do what you want. To get the most appropriate way depends on the actual drawing and exactly how it is constructed and what objects are used.

Do you already have an Illustrator file and can you share it for inspection?
