Enlarge specific areas on graphic like a magnifier

Hi,

I created a vector graphic of a smart city with a lot of details. For some specific areas of the map, I want to enlarge them to make them more readable. Just like someone putting a magnifier on a map to enlarge a specific area. Is that somehow possible? Instead of a magnifier as symbol/object I would prefer some kind of rectangle.

I'm really new to Illustrator and was already proud to create the graphic, so it must be a beginner solution.

Thanks
Philipp

Copy the graphic, enlarge it as required, then use a rectangle (or whatever shape) as a clipping mask on the enlarged copy.

Depending on the artwork and how many details you want to enlarge it may be useful to add your artwork to the Symbols panel as a Static Symbol and use instances of the symbol to enlarge. This will make your file smaller because the map is only saved once.

Thank you so much, the clipping mask did the trick. Really nice feature! 🙂
