Envelope distort grid before distorting contents?

Hi, I have some lines which run horizontal. I'd like these to distort but look even within the space in the shape.

I have used an object shape where I want the lines to follow the top path. The spacing feels a little out. If I then re-set with mesh I can edit further but the envelope mesh rows/columns fall in the wrong place.

If I create a rectangle and use the mesh tool and choose where the vertical lines are and then distort the outer edge to roughly match my previous shape, is it possible to 'replace mesh shape' with 'new mesh shape'

Then perhaps this might to a better job distorting the lines so it feel equal. Or perhaps there's a better way, can anyone help? See attached file for ref

Hi @.33904303rds7 I'm not super good with meshes warping, but one thing I often do is put my artwork inside another, larger rectangle. This means that the outer rectangle defines the distortions boundary and I can move my artwork within those bounds without altering the distortion itself. Sorry if that is obscure, I know I'm not explaining too well.

But I also wanted to mention that if you are just trying to get those lines distorted, another approach is to use a simple blend between two paths, but with varying stroke widths. See attached pdf.
