Question

EPS file size default to A4

I have created a PDF to a particaular size with media and trim box set to 207x191mm. I then have to save this PDF as EPS format from Acrobat but when I then open this file in Illustrator it defaults to an A4 page size.

Not sure why illustraor does not open the EPS file as the original size.

For this particular workflow I need to export from PDF to EPS and not open the PDF from illustrator first.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

EPS files do NOT contain page size information. An EPS file only contains the objects.

Opening an EPS will assume the default page size of your Illustrator.

Although there might be a bounding box defined in your EPS that's equal to your defined media size (you can see this if you open the EPS in a text editor), it's only useful when PLACING an EPS; there's no actial object in the file that is that size, so all Illustrator will see is the object data.

Why don't you save as EPS directly from Illustrator?

Hi Monika,

We are using a specific workflow that is converting PNG files to PDF automatically then I have to save this PDF to EPS to continue that workflow. It is here that I am getting the size problems. There is a default A4 somewhere but I cant see where?

Hello @Richard5C56,

Would you mind sharing a sample file after uploading to a file-sharing service like Google Drive/Dropbox/etc. and screenshots of the trim box and export settings used so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
