How to erase part of an image that isn't a ai file. I want to erase lines true the images.

I'm new to CC and it's driving me nuts.

There isn't much point in editing raster graphics, like PNGs or JPGs in Illustrator, because this application was created for vector graphics. Photoshop is the right application for editing raster graphics. If you need to create an image with both, raster and vector graphics, it is a good idea to create the main file in Photoshop and link any AI files as smart objects.

It would certainly help to see a screenshot of what you're referring to, but I often use Opacity Masks to make parts of a raster image transparent in IL. Try taking a look on the instructions for Opacity Masks at this page, to see if that helps.

It seems the best way is to erase them by opening your image in Photoshop. However, without seeing the image, we can't know what you are trying to accomplish.

The eraser tool will only work on paths. And most probably it won't work as you expect. Please show us a screenshot of what you want to do.
