- turn off "Save in background" in the Illustrator preferences

- do not directly save to a network or a thumb drive and in some cases Google Drive or other synchronized folders also fail

@jorge38797919gsq2 many of my students who start our program literally are using computers with 4 gigs of RAM, and honestly, with the latest version of Illustrator with Generative AI, 16 gigs of RAM is the bare minimum I think. The more you have the better of course. As well as processing power and graphics card. 

What OS system are you using, RAM, graphics card?

Try saving in Safe Mode and this may pinpoint the issue from drivers and such.
