Error message: a libcurl function was given a bad argument

Some of our users are getting the following error message while trying to update artworks on their MAC with Adobe Illustrator 2025 Version 29.8.2 (64-bit)
They have it very often they said. Whenever they then restart the AI and log in again then it will work for a time being but then happens again.
Does someone maybe know the error message and can tell us how we can solve it?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,
Dunja

Hi @different_friend7334,

Thanks for sharing those details. Could you please try temporarily copying one of the affected files to your local desktop and check if the same error appears there? This will help confirm if the issue is limited to the network environment.

If it works fine locally, I'd recommend checking with your IT team to ensure the SMB connection is stable and that Illustrator has full read and write permissions to that shared folder.

Please let me know how it goes after testing this.

Abhishek

Hi Abhishek,
we did not do the desktop test, but when you mentioned the access or Network stable issue. I checked with the user and I asked her to show me where they keep the files and when she showed me I noticed that the Folder is not active. (See screenshot) She then confirmed that sometimes the folder is active and sometimes not. After knowing this info I closed then our Adobe Illustrator and Plug in Tickets as it looks like that this issue is not coming from Adobe Illustrator nor from our Plug in FlexPLM Design Suite.

I really appricate all your Support which have helped us to find out the root cause.

Thank you very much and best regards,
Dunja

Hello @different_friend7334,

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear about your experience. While I check this with the team, could you confirm if this happens when working with specific files or files from a specific folder location (internal/external/network drive or a cloud-synced folder like Dropbox/iCloud Drive/etc.) so we can investigate further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Anubhav,

Thank you very much for your quick reply 🙂
It is from network drive.
The Folder is called for example: smb://be-vfhq.canda.biz/designer1/children/2a. TODDLER GIRLS/2026/AW 2026/05.PLM AW26/KNITTED BOTTOMS
I hope this helps.

If you need more info's please let me know.
Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,
Dunja
