Error: The selection contains complex artwork that may cause the system to become unresponsive in Ai

I use Illustrator to clean up flattened 3D files. In order to do this, I use the Live Paint bucket and triple click to fill all faces. Basically removing 1000's of overlapping lines. When the artwork is too large, I receive an arror message saying:

"The selection contains complex artwork that may cause the system to become unresponsive during conversion to a Live Paint group. It is recommended that you save your file (I have) before proceeding. For better performance, convert parts of the artwork one at a time. "

This error message pops up between the 2nd and 3rd click, which interrupts the process and causes Illustrator to only fill the one face under the bucket tool.

Is there anyway to supress this error or tell it to not show again? I do this nearly everyday, so I know how long it will take, based on the 3d file's complexity. What I dont know is the threashold of complexity that causes Illustrator to trigger this error. I've broken the file done into the smallest parts I can without spending loads of time. I've also reduced the amount of trash I'm receiving from the 3d program as far as I can. If I can just remove this error, I'm willing to wait.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this trouble. Could you please share a few more details like:

  • OS and version of Illustrtaor
  • System specification (Ram, HDD/ SSD storage, Processor, GPU)
  • Does this issue happen while working on a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Where is this file saved? (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • Does this happen frequently? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Screenshot of the error
  • A small video demonstrating the issue could be really helpful.
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,
