Excessive RAM usage Illustrator 2026 on macOS

M3 Max, 36GB RAM. Illustrator uses 18–20GB while AIRobin uses another 16–20GB. Memory pressure turns yellow and swap climbs on simple files. Reinstalled Illustrator and reset prefs. Anyone else seeing this or found a fix?

I was seeing Illustrator 2026 and AIRobin consume 15–20GB each on an M3 Max (36GB RAM), even with relatively simple vector files. As a test, I renamed the AIRobin component inside the Illustrator app package so Illustrator could no longer launch it. After doing so, memory pressure and RAM consumption appeared significantly lower. This may help narrow down whether AIRobin is contributing to the issue.

Interesting, have you noticed any downsides from disabling AIRobin?

    Hi @ENUFSTUDIO,

Apologies for the delayed response. Hopefully the issue has been resolved by now — if not, please try the following:

    1. Work through the suggestions in this performance optimization guide: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/optimize-illustrator-performance.html
    2. Disable Background Save from Illustrator's preferences and check if the behavior improves.

Share what you observe — and if any of these resolve the issue, kindly mark the helpful reply as the correct answer so other users with similar trouble can find the fix.
