Expanding Dashed Strokes

Hi there,

I'm wondering if someone has a fix for this, maybe I'm doing something wrong. 

I have a dashed stroke in which I want to exand in order to finalise my artwork. However when I expand this stroke it is creating triangles from each dash and I was wondering if there was a particular reason for this?
