Export an .ai file over to Asset Export Window for use in Dimension

Hello Team,  I am working in Illustrator and I go to Window<Asset Export to open the Asset Export Tab. Next, I select my 3D object and drag it over to the Asset Export window. The problem i am having is the image does not appear in the Asset Export window. 

 

I want to export this asset for use in Dimension.

Update:

In AI I went to File < Export Selection < saved locally as an obj file. Then in Dimension, File<Import<3D Model. 

this appears to have done the trick!
