export from Illustrator to PDF - text not selectable

Hi,

We need to export a 2-page file from Illustrator CS6 to PDF.

The problem is that when a user opens this PDF file (Adobe Acrobat Reader DC) they can't select any of the text (Selection tool for text and images).

We can't discover what we are doing wrong.

Can you help us?

Hi CHMprepress,

Thank you for your reply.

On Illustrator CS6 we select the Type Tool and are able to edit this text. This is a live text, right?

We save as Adobe PDF. Now we have this PDF file with "no live text inside".

But we open this PDF file in Illustrator and are still able to edit the text.

What are we missing here?

I see the problem now.

There is a appearance on the text object "Outline object".

Remove that in Illustrator and it wil be live again.

Is the text on the top layer and at the top of the object stack?

Be aware to change text to outlines before exporting - texts should be live text - not vector

Be aware to use many overlapping objects/text

Look for transparency and effects. Some effects would made your text rasterised

What PDF export  presets you used?

That pdf has no live text inside. The document is vectorised.

So that is the reason why the text can not be selected.
