Export in Illustrator to PDF/X-4 is disabled standard options?

Hi, please advice for Illustrator 28.0. When exporting to PDF/x-4:2008, I don't have the standard PDF/x-3 and PDF/x-4 options available (the options are greyed out) only the PDF/x-1 options are enabled and when exporting it makes disgusting lines around the objects and messes up the drop shadow as well.

It seems like you're encountering an issue with the PDF export options in Illustrator 28.0. First, let's try to narrow down the problem:

  1. Have you tested exporting a new, simple document to see if the PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-4 options are available for a new file? This will help determine if it's an issue with your specific file or a global problem with Illustrator.
  2. As suggested by Monika, sometimes issues like this can be resolved by resetting your preferences in Illustrator. Please make sure to back up any custom preferences and settings before doing this, as it will erase your current settings.
  3. If the problem persists, you can use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to completely uninstall Illustrator and then reinstall it. The Cleaner Tool can help ensure that there are no remnants of previous installations causing conflicts.

Hi @Monika Gause and @Anshul_Saini,

Thank you very much for your time and willingness to help me.
Doing a reset of the settings did not help me. Even downgrading up to version 27.0 did not help me. I am sending the attachment as the standard options for pdf/x4 are inactive. I currently need to do an export with Illustrator default option without adding output profile fogra39. I then open the pdf in acrobat and there is the file in RGB mode while in illustrator the project was in CMYK. I use the option Preflight/convert to pdf/x-4 coated fogra39/analyze and fix. This will solve my problem, but these are unnecessary extra steps since I have done exports directly through illustrator in the past.

And when you select PDF/X-4 from the Presets menu?

Did you just update?

Did you migreate the preferences?

 

Something might have happened when you installed so that the presets didn't get installed. YOu can try and reboot the system and then reset the preferences (this will erase your settings). But if that doesn't have you might need to reinstall. Maybe use the Cleaner tool after uninstalling.
